Edward lived with his parents on the farm at Nyora, Victoria until WWII. He enlisted in the Militia Forces 28th February 1939, which is the equivilant to the modern day Army Reserve. Described as being 5'11" tall, weighing 147 lbs, with perfect eye sight. He was assigned to the Royal Australian Artillery and given the rank of Gunner.
He re-enlisted full time 15th April 1941 snd given the sevice number VX53256.
On several occasions during his service he went Absent without Leave (AWOL) and was awarded fines and losses of his pay but this did not deter him, again on 1st October to 23rd December 1943 he was AWOL, however this time he was charged, taken to a Court Martial and was committed to detention in the Grovely cells, Queensland. He was encarcerated for seven days and also fined £12/ with a pay forfeiture of 142 days pay. Released from the cells 18th February 1943, he was sent to Port Moresby, Papua New Gunea (PNG). He departed 31st March 1943 and arrived at the staging point 3rd April 1943. This would have taken away any more opportunities for him to go AWOL. On 28th September that same year he came down with Dengue Fever and was evacuated to to the hospital until 9th October. He again was evacuted to the hospital in December but this time the condition that he was suffering from lead to his return to Australia due to being medically unfit. 31st May he embarked on the 'USAT Klipfontein'[] and was eventually discharged from the Military 16th September 1944, after being on leave without pay for several months since his return.
Again, he lived with his parents until 1949 when he had moved to High St, Oakleigh and was working as a Linesman, moving not long after to another address in the same suburb.
Edward married Lesley Lear 22nd July 1950. Initially the couple in 1954 lived at 875 High St, Thornbury, where he was still working as a Linesman. In 1963-8 they had moved to Main Rd, Hastings, where he is recorded in the electoral roll as being a Farmer, living not far from his brother Ray.
By 1972 he was not living with Lesley as she moved to 3 Acacia St, Camberwell, their relationship must have failed and Ted was now living at 42 Campbell St, Cribb Point. In 1977 Lesley was living at 9 Seaview Pde, Lakes Entrance, but, Ted remained living in Cribb Point working as a labourer.
Lesley died in 1996 in Bairnsdale, Victoria.
Ted died 12th March 1997 in Cribb Point, Victoria and is buried in the cemetery at Nyora, Victoria in the family plot.
