Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Pat was the youngest of seventeen children of Thomas (Tom) Vincent McKenzie (born 1851 at 'Little Scotland' in Geelpng, Victoria) and second wife Elizabeth Davies (born 1963 in Batesford, Victoria). At twelve/fourteen years of age Tom was working as a Timber Cutter with his family at Eclipse Creek near Meredith in Victoria, and shortly afterwards was a Carter with his bullock team. He married Elizabeth in 1883 at Meredith, and they lived in the region until 1912 when they moved with their younger children to South Gippsland. Share-farming at first, Tom and Elizabeth settled on a farm at Wonga, where Tom died in 1924 when he was on horseback chasing pigs to market at Foster (from story by Kim Churchward).

Pat was a Labourer in 1936 when he married Mavis Jean Asling (born 1910 at Doncaster in Manningham, Victoria) in Sydney, NSW. Pat and Mavis were both living at Ferntree Gully, and settled there after their marriage.

In July 1942 Pat enlisted in the Army as a Private (Service No:VX85160) and was attached to 21 Infantry Training Battalion when he was Discharged in April 1945. Brother Frederick (Fred) Vincent (Private, Service No:V19796) also served in WWII, and brothers Alexander William (Private, Service No:16716) and John James (Service No:3889) served in WWI.

Pat and Mavis lived in Belgrave, Ferntree Gully, Victoria where Pat worked as a Labourer. Mavis died in 1960 and Pat in 1977.
