Harry was the youngest of seven children of Ethel May Young (born 1887 in Majorca, Central Goldfoelds, Victoria). Ethel took the surname Parker when her first child was born in 1908, listing Elva's father as 'Joseph William Parker, Travelling Salesman' - there is no record of J W Parker, no record of marriage, and 'father unknown' is recorded on the birth registration of subsequent children.
Harry was eighteen years of age when he enlisted in the RAAF in November 1942, and was a Leading Aircraftman (Service No:120822) attached to Southern Command HQ when he was Discharged in February 1946. Brother Leslie (ACMF, Private, Service No:V353907) and Brothers-in-Law Ronald Errington Campbell (Captain, VX330) and Alexander George White (Gunner, Service No:VX26804/Aircraftman 2 (Service No:429754) also served in WWII.
Harry was working in Melbourne as a Storeman after the War, and in 1958 married Nancy Florence Farrar (born 1931 in Castlemaine, Victoria). Nancy was a Tailoress. Harry worked as a Foreman in Melbourne until he and Nancy moved to Dromana on the Mornington Peninsular in 1980, where Harry worked as a Clerk .
