Ted was the eldest of eight children of William Henry Pinker (born 1876 in Gloucestershire, England) and Mabel Devina Cook (born 1880 in Melbourne, Victoria). William immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1886, arriving in Fremantle, WA on board the Otago. Mabel arrived in Frematle, WA with her parents and siblings in 1900. In 1907 William was a Farm Hand when he married Mabel in East Perth, WA, and in 1911 the family moved to Northam, WA,

Ted (whose middle name on official records in Edwin, but was Edward on his Attestation Papers)was a Plumber in Northam, WA in June 1942 when he enlisted in the AMF, serving as a Private (Service No:WX27492)with A Coy 28th Infantry Battalion AMF. He was attached to 28th Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in February 1946.

Ted returned to Northam and worked as a Shop Assistant before moving to Rivervale in Perth, WA in 1960. He worked as a Shop Assistant in Rivervale, where he died in 1986/
