Stanley was the sixth of eight children of John William Schuhkraft (born 1864 in Doncaster, Victoria) and Mary Anne Elizabeth Crossley (born 1890 in Yorkshire, England). In 1913 John was an Orchardist at Doncaster in Victoria when he married Mary Anne. They raised their family there and John worked as an Orchardist until his death in 1944.

Stanley worked as a Labourer in Doncaster, Victoria and enlisted in the Army in July 1942. He served as a Corporal (Service No:VX84788) and was attached to 2 Division Provost Coy when he was Discharged in January 1946. Brother William (Bill) John Schuhkraft (Gunner, Service No:V111653) and Brothers-in-Law Walter Robert Gardiner (Leading Aircraftman, Service No:128283) and Albert Arthur Weir (Private, Service Nos:V275444/VX82332) also served in WWII.

Stanley was in Nambour, QLD in 1943 when he married Eunice May Nama (born 1927 in Mapleton, QLD). When Stanley was Discharged, he returned to Doncaster, Victoria and Eunice remained in Brisbane, QLD where she worked as a Waitress until remarrying.

Stanley worked as a Mechanic in Doncaster until moving to Yea at Indi in Victoria where he worked as a Bus Driver. Stanley then moved to Eltham in Melbourne, Victoria in the early 1950s, where he worked as a Taxi Driver until 1970 when he moved to Eroa at Indi in Victoria. Stanley lived in Eroa and worked as a Mechanic until he retired. He died in 2010.
