Biography contributed by Ellen Magill

Maurice was in Darwin, when it was attacked. He went out to sea, during the attack. The gunner on the boat, he was on was wounded. He took over the gun and shot purportedly at a plane. It was smoking, as it headed towards the sea. He didn't see it enter the water and he wasn't credited with the action. He later recorded this and many other things as he spent time building airstrips in the islands. He signed  K surrounded by a circle on his work. On returning to Melbourne, he used the circle k for a square dance group and other businesses he ran. He owned an Ampol service station in Heidelberg Victoria and enjoyed playing golf, until his retirement and death.
