George William Digney was born in Timboon, Victoria, where his grandparents both Digney and Dalton were early settlers. His uncle Alf Digney was KIA in France during WW1. He was the eldest son with two of his younger brothers also born in the town, where Digney's Bridge Road was named after the family. His family moved to Western Australia, but his mother, Matilda Amelia, known as Dolly, travelled back to their home town bringing her family with her. They eventually settled in the west, but still kept ties to the district.
