Following advice in letters from his brother at the front in Greece, John Matthew Magill, known as Jack, Will joined the Air-force. Jack after his experience said it was the way of the future.

Will was the son of Matthew Magill KIA and Sarah Blanche Magill/ Dalton. His brother John Matthew Magill also died as a POW. During World War 1 the young William lived with his Dalton Grandparents, his brother and Keith Webb Tallent his cousin. He married Thelma Kelly, before the war began. His son Brian Matthew Magill, retired as a lieutenant in the CMF.
