Biography contributed by Chris Stuart

Trevor Stuart was born and raised in Galong NSW. He left school at 13.5 due to difficulties in getting from Galong to Yass by train for high school.

He worked as a farm hand around Galong until joining the 7th Light Horse Regiment (Citizen Military Force) and rode from around Yass to Saddleback Mountain near Kiama before later transferring to the 2nd Australian Imperial Force.

Trooper Samuel Trevor Stuart saw active service in New Guinea and Bougainville where he served in the 2/4th Australian Armoured Regiment.

After returning to Australia he was stationed at the Cowra POW Camp looking after Italians before being discharged from the Army when the 2nd AIF was demobilised. Around this time he suffered a number of serious bouts of malaria.

Trevor married Mary McInerney in 1947 in Young, NSW and they went on to have ten children. He and Mary spent many years volunteering in community support agencies across the NSW Central West, and later Newcastle areas.

Trevor rarely spoke of his military service. He was a proud family man who enjoyed playing tennis in his youth; and watching cricket, rugby league and tennis in retirement.
