Harry was the second of four children of Hubert Roy Trethewie (born 1893 in Evandale, Tasmania) and Elizabeth Margaret Fairbairn (born 1895 in Evandale, Tasmania). Hubert was a Farmer when he enlisted in the AIF (Lieutenant, Service No:73) in March 1916. He was a Farmer and Grazier at Evandale when he married Elizabeth in 1921. They settled at Evandale where Hubert was a Pastoralist and Grazier.
Harry was eighteen years of age when he enlisted in the RAAF in September 1942. He was on training flight (Tiger Moth A17 - 274) at Western Junction in March 1943 when he was slightly injured in a crash with a tractor and trailer (National Archives Australia). Harry was a Corporal (Service No:428032) attached to 6 Recruit Centre Hobart when he was Discharged in January 1945. Brothers-in-Law Harry Owen Croker (RAAF, Service No:88744) and Geoffrey Allen (Flight Sergeant, Service No:428170) also served in WWII.
Returning to Blessington near Launceston in Tasmania, Harry was a Pastoralist when he married Lois Elizabeth Parkin (born 1925 in Launceston, Tasmania) in 1946. They settled at Blessington near Launceston where Harry was a Pastoralist. In 1953 Harry and Elizabeth and their two sons were at the beach at Bridport with friends when a freak wave swept their son Randall (then 10 years of age) and another boy out to sea. Harry swam out and was only able to rescue one of the boys - his son Randall. The other boy - David Moase - drowned.
Harry died in 2015 and Lois in 2017.
