Geoffrey was the eldest of three children of William Arthur Allen (born 1894 in Launceston, Tasmania) and Ivy Decima Goldsworthy (born 1898 in Beaconsfield, Tasmania). William was a Cabinet Maker when he enlsited in WWI, serving as a Private (Service No:2226), and in 1921 he had returned to Launceston where he married Ivy. William worked as a Saddle - Tree Maker in Launceston, where he and Ivy raised their family. William served in the ACMF (Staff Sergeant, Service No:T51815) in WWII.
Geoffrey was an apprentice Fitter and Turner (Launceston Railways) when he enlisted with No 6 Cadet Wing in February 1942. He enlisted with the RAAF in March 1943 (Service No:428170), progressing from Air Gunner to a commission in January 1945. Geoffrey served in the UK, and was Discharged on 30 August 1945. Brothers-in-Law Henry (Harry) Roy Trethewie (Corporal, RAAF, Service No:428032) and Harry Owen Crocker (Leading Aircraftman, Service No:88744) also served in WWII.
Geoffrey returned to Launceston, Tasmania following his Discharge, and worked as a Fitter and Turner. In 1946 he married Elizabeth (Betty) Emily Trethewie (born 1921 in Launceston, Tasmania). Betty (a Nurse) and she Geoffrey settled in Launceston, where Geoofrey died in 1993 and Betty in 2000.
