Died on this date – 6th February…… Neil Flower Edmonds was born at Diamond Creek, Victoria on 1st December, 1891.

He married Harriet Jones at Coolgardie, Western Australia on 31st August, 1914. A son – Neil Flower Edmonds was born on 17th October, 1914. A daughter – Mavis Edmonds was born on 17th April, 1916 in the district of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.

Neil Flower Edmonds enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 24th June, 1916 as a 24 year old, married, Miner (Occupation as per Embarkation Roll, however he was listed as Barman on Application to Enlist in the Australian Imperial Force).

On 30th October, 1916 Private Edmonds, Service number 2655, embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia on HMAT Port Melbourne (A16) with the 6th Reinforcements of 48th Battalion & disembarked at Devonport, England on 28th December, 1916.

Reinforcements were only given basic training in Australia. Training was completed in training units in England. Some of these were located in the Salisbury Plain & surrounding areas in the county of Wiltshire.

He was marched in to 12th Training Battalion, Codford, Wiltshire from Australia on 28th December, 1916.
On 6th February, 1917 Private Edmonds reported sick & was admitted to Salisbury Isolation Hospital, Wiltshire.

Private Neil Flower Edmonds died on 6th February, 1917 at Isolation Hospital, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England from Cerebro Spinal Meningitis 4 hours after admission.

He was buried in St Lawrence’s Churchyard, Stratford-sub-Castle, Wiltshire, England where 25 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
