Lawrence was the eldest of five children of William Henry Conwell Aldred (born 1888 in Launceston, Tasmania) and Eve Maude Britton (born 1895 at Ringarooma, Tasmania). William - a Labourer - and Eve married in Burnie Tasmania in 1915, and in 1916 relocated to Sydney, NSW.
Lawrence was a Moulder at Bankstown in Sydney, NSW in 1940 when he married Marcia Joyce Smyth (born 1918 in Charters Towers, QLD. He enlisted with the AMF in September 1942, and was a Staff Sergeant (Service Nos:NX12/92/92) attached to HQ 2/1 Australian Advanced Ordinance Depot when he was Discharged in November 1945. Wife Marcia served as a Private (Service No:NF482638) with the Australian Army Medical Women's Services. Brothers-in-Law Norman Roy Walsh (Corporal; Service No:NX207011) and Herbert Douglas Rogers (Sergeant; Service Nos:NX190284/N54902) also served in WWII.
Lawrence and Marcia (a Process Worker) lived in Sydney, NSW where Lawrence worked as a Labourer and Concrete Contractor. In the late 1970s both Lawrence and Marcia became Youth Workers in Punchbowl, Sydney NSW. Lawrence died in 1988 and Marcia in 2014.
