William was the eldest of four children of William (Bill) Ellis (born 1892 in Karridale near Augusta, WA) and Katherine (Kate) Mary Brennan (born 1899 at Boranuo, WA). Bill (a Farmer) married Katie (a Waitress) in 1921 in Perth, WA. Bill and Katie raised their family on the farm (Pericles) in Augusta, WA. They separated in 1942.
William was a Fitter in Perth, WA when he enlisted in the Australian Army in March 1944. He was a Lieutenant (Service No:WX22798) attached to 5 Mechanical Workshop when he was Discharged in July 1946. His father Bill had served in both Wars.
William married Henrietta Thomas (born 1917 in Sydney, NSW) in 1950 in Perth, WA and the couple moved to Eden Monaro, NSW where William was a Mechanical Engineer. William died in South Australia in 2016.
