Henry was the youngest of fifteen children of George Heaysman (born 1842 in Sussex, England) and Emily Caroline Boswell (born 1850 in Bengal, India). George (a Gentleman's Servant) enlisted in the 105th Foot in April 1860 and was in India when he married Emily in 1864. The family had returned to England by 1871 and George was Rifle Instructor with 2nd Rifles B. By 1882 George was a Publican and Licensed Victualler in Worthing, Sussex where he died of Pneumonia in 1899. Following George' death, Emily worked as a Domestic Servant and Nurse.

Following the death of his father, Henry was sent to St Augustine's Boys' Home in Clewer, Berkshire and in 1911 was a Drummer in the British Army - King's Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment at Fort Regent Jersey in the Channel Islands. He served as a Private and Lance Corporal (Regimental No:8974) in WWI and was WiA (2 bullet wounds to his arm and shrapnel wound to left thigh).

In May 1921 Henry arrived in Fremantle WA on board the Ormonde and worked as a Motor Lorry Driver in Perth, WA before moving to Toodyay in 1930. In 1941 Henry married Eileen Jean Gibbs (nee Reid, born 1886 in Mountsbay, Victoria) in Perth, WA. Eileen had worked as a Domestic Servant and Dressmaker in Perth. Henry and Eileen settled at Chandler via Toodyay, WA where Henry worked as a Farm Hand and Storeman.
