SON OF W. & A. HOGARTH BALGOWNIE, QUEENSLAND OUTSOARED THE SHADOW OF OUR NIGHT

GUNNER ARCHIE HOGARTH
Passes Away in France
In a brief paragraph in our issue of yesterday was conveyed the sad intelligence that Gunner Archi  Hogarth son of Mrs. Hogarth, of '"Kerrielau" Toowoomba, and of the late Mr  William Hogarth of Balgownie, has passed away in France whilst on active service with the Australian Expeditionary Forces. The late hour at which the news came to hand - very shortly before the "Gazette" went to press prevented; more extended reference being made to the lamentable occurrence, but we are sure that the, intimation of Mrs Hogarth's bereavement, and that of the family, was read with sincere regret. The esteemed lady referred to, some months ago, lost another son who was soeving the Empire, Pte. Alex. F. ("Sandy") Hogarth, of Maryvale, who died from pneumonia in Egypt.  Hence the grief felt at the demise of Gunner Archie Hogarth is the more poignant. Mrs Hogarth has given three of her seven sons to the Empire. As already stated, Alex. F. . ("Sandy"),  and Archie have nobly laid down, their lives in the cause of Christian freedom, and the fourth son,
Angus, has enlisted, and has just gone or is about, to goi into camp. Messrs. Pat, Robert C. ("Bob'), 'Joe,' and Leslie are the remaining sons, and are greatly, respected in the  pastoral pursuits in which they are engaged. The late. Pte. "Sandy" and , Gunner Archie Hogarth were typically fine young Scottish-Australians, and the State is the poorer for  their early demise. To Mrs. Hogarth and the remaining members of the stricken family will be tendered the very true sympathy of all.
