Bill was the second of three children of William Percy Caldwell Snr (born 1881 in Castlemaine, Victoria) and Laura Daisy Farrar (born 1892 in Brisbane, QLD). William (a Cleaner) and Laura married in 1907 in Castlemaine, Victoria where they settled to raise their family. William worked as a Brass Finisher.
Bill worked as a Clerk in Collingwood, Victoria and in 1937 married Doreen Marie Kerr (born 1916 in Fitzroy, Melbourne, Victoria. Doreen was a Textile Worker. Bill and Doreen settled in Preston, Victoria where Bill was a Solicitor's Clerk. He enlisted in the ACMF in January 1942 and served as a Private (Service No:V300635) with 4th Division Australian Army Service Corps. He was Discharged in May 1943.
Bill and Doreen settled in Darebin, Melbourne, Victoria where Bill was a Draper until the late 1960s when he and Doreen moved to Templestowe north of Melbourne, Bill worked as a Commercial Traveller and died in 2001. Doreen died in 2010.
