Darren was the only son of William Samuel Frank Anscombe (born 1897 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Edith Martha Stringer (born 1899 in Scoresby, Victoria). William - a Carpenter in Melbourne - married Edith in 1921 and they settled in Melbourne to raise their family. By the early 1930s William was a Dairy Manager, and in 1942 he enlisted in the Army (Corporal; Service No:52387). After the War he was a Trade Inspector.

Darren was a Salesman in the Northern Territory when he enlisted in the Army (Service No:VX132879). He was attached to 1 Australian Bulk Petrol Storage Coy when he was Discharged in July 1946.

In 1949 Darren was a Salesman in Melbourne, Victoria when he married Dawn (Valerie) Machin (born in Melbourne, Victoria). Darren and Valerie moved to Swan Hill, Mallee in 1950 and Darren worked as a Saleman and Garage Proprietor. In the mid 1960s the family moved to Hightown in Corangamite, Victoria where Darren was a Newsagent. He retired to Miami on the Gold Coast in QLD, where he died in 1995.
