Stanley was the youngest of twelve children of Louis Jacob Nicholas Hastedt (born 1878 in Adelong, NSW) and Minnie Brennan (born 1876 in Molong, NSW). Louis (a Labourer) and Minnie married in Orange, NSW in 1898 and settled in the area to raise their family.
Stanley was Farm Hand at Shadforth near Orange, NSW when he enlisted in the ACMF in June 1941, and in August 1942 was in the 2 AIF 54th Infantry Battalion (Private; Service Nos:NX122728/N197665). He was Discharged in September 1946.
Stanly returned to Shadforth and worked as a Labourer before moving to Meekatharra in WA. He died in 1953.
