Robert was the only child of Robert (Snr) James Pead (born 1893 in Port Macquarie, NSW) and first wife Eva Mary Warrall (born 1895 in Port Macquarie, NSW). Robert Snr was a Farmer when he married Eva in 1919 in Sydney, NSW. He served in WWI as a Private (Service No:1981) and he and Eva separated in the 1920s. Robert remarried to Selina (Sally) Parry in 1929.

Robert enlisted in the Army in July 1942, and was a Corporal (Service Nos:NX105699/N185597) attached to 6 Corps of Signals when he was Discharged in April 1946.

In 1958 Robert was a Salesman in Sydney, NSW when he married Dell Cooper (nee Richards, born 1924 in Kurri Kurri, NSW). Dell served as a Private (Service No:NF451832) in WWII. Robert and Dell settled in Sydney, NSW where Robert was a Salesman. They retired to Lake Cathie near Port Macquarie, NSW in the late 1960s, where Rober died in 1995. Dell died in 2002.
