Son of Thomas and Emily May Kermode, of Kent Town, South Australia.
"Sea-going" Apprentice K. L. P. Kermode has been killed by enemy action off the Australian coast on February 6.
S.A. SEAMEN MISSING
SYDNEY.-Five South Australians are included in the first official casualty list of the Australian Merchant Navy, just issued by the Minister for Shipping (Mr. Beasley). In addition, the list contains the names of 29 men from New South Wales and four from Victoria, most of whom are presumed dead.
South Australians who are missing, presumed dead, are: L. Byrnes, trimmer, of Murray Bridge; D. M. Hamden, fireman, of Port Adelaide; K. L. P. Kermode, apprentice, of Kent Town; H. L. South, fireman, of Port Adelaide; and M. Slattery, fireman, of Port Adelaide.
The casualties were the result of enemy action in recent months, Mr. Beasley added.
