Son of Rev. B J Meek, Bay Street, Rockdale, New South Wales

THEIR GLORY SHALL NOT BE BLOTTED OUT

A cable message has been received by the Rev. B.J. Meek of Rockdale from the British War Office to the effect that his son, Lieut. H.K. Meek of the King's Royal Rifles, has received a gunshot wound in the eye while in the fighting line at the Dardanelles.  The wounds was received on July 5.  Lieut. Meek has reached England, and is now a patient in  the Park Lane Hospital, London.  Subsequent to the War Office cable, his parents received a private cabel of a cheery nature.  Lieut. Meek was in Odessa when war was declared.  He made all speed to England and received a commission in the King's Royal Rifles.  He was slected with six other officers for service in the Dardanelles.

The Rev. B. J. Meek, of Rockdale, has been informed that his son, Lieutenant H. K. Meek, of the King's Royal Rifles, was killed in France on September 15. An older brother was killed in Gallipoli early in  the war. Lieutenant Meek was educated at Newington College and Sydney University, where he had a successful career. After a little time spent in teaching in Tasmania, he entered St. John's College,  Oxford, to pursue a course of study in law, which he completed by taking his degree with honours. He spent some time as a tutor in the family of a Russian gentleman. When the war broke out he went to England to enlist, and received a commission. A bad wound in one of his eyes took him to London, and getting six months' furlough, he visited his family and friends in Sydney. His eye was  permanently injured, but he returned to duty, and took part in training troops. The brief news by cable-gram would appear to indicate that he had returned to the front.
