Parents' Hopes For Airman Son
Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Thornton, parents of Pilot-Officer Stanley G. Thornton, 25, who was reported missing on May 12 believe that he may be a prisoner of war in Germany. Pilot-Officer Thornton belonged to the same squadron as Flying-Officer W. Edwards, of Leichhardt, who was posted as missing the same day, and is known to be a prisoner of war in Germany. Mr. and Mrs. Thornton, who live in Fredben Avenue. North Sydney, said yesterday that Flying-Officers Edwards and their son often flew together. Pilot-Officer Thornton has been on active service since the outbreak of the war. He left Sydney in August, 1938, and was posted to a squadron on the east coast of England.
THORNTON.—May 12, 1940, presumed to have lost his life in air operations over Maastricht, Belgium, Pilot-officer Stanley George Thornton, dearly loved son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Thornton, and brother of Norman (deceased), Geoffrey (R.A.A.F.), and Bryan (R.A.A.F.), also a tribute to his gallant crew.
