Service History

Paul Hodge, born in Brisbane 7th May 1951. Two weeks after turning 17 years, he enlisted in the Australian Regular Army 14th May 1968 and served for six years. His service number is 1202091.

His military history: Recruit Training at Kapooka and was awarded the Outstanding Soldier trophy for his platoon. Corp training at School of Signals, Balcombe Vic. and after 12 months he was qualified as Electronics Technician, RA Signals. Postings include 4 Sig Regiment when he was promoted to Corporal, 110 Signal Squadron South Vietnam, 2 Sig Regiment and Joint Communications Centre, Russell, Canberra. Discharged on 14 May 1974.

In 1970 he was promoted to Corporal and was posted on active service to 110 Signal Squadron, South Vietnam, from 16 September 1970 to 16 September 1971.
While serving in South Vietnam he was assigned as a detachment commander, deployment troop, 110 Sig Squadron. He was on rotation between his squadron’s HQ located at 1st Australian Logistic Support Group in Vũng Tàu, 1ATF Headquarters, Nui Dat, and Fire Support Base, Horseshoe, Phuoc Tuy province.
The role of this signal detachment of three men was to ensure there was continuous 24/7 radio telephone communications between the fire support base and 1ATF.

Paul Hodge was awarded the Australian Active Service Medal 1945-1975, the Australian Defence Medal, the Vietnam Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Later in 1980’s he served 6 years in the Army Reserve.
