The Cold Grey Light of Dawn - by Bart Mavrick
At The Dawesville RSL Dawn Service this year, our President asked for a period of silence prior to the start of our Dawn Service, I was the MC for the Service. I thought if we are going to ask those members of the public who attend our Dawn Service and have a silent reflection I should explain why. This is my my response.
This is what is known as the cold grey light of dawn.
This is when servicemen in conflict stand too.
They wait there in the gloom to see if the enemy are close and will they be attacked.
Their nerves are stretched to the limit.
If the enemy attack all hell will break loose, if they don't there will be a sense of relief as the sun rises.
Emotions run high during this time every day.
PLEASE OBSERVE A PERIOD OF SILENCE TO REFLECT ON WHAT THEY WERE THINKING "IN THE COLD GREY LIGHT OF DAWN."
