Frederick Porteen Bishop Harris was buried at the Coburg Cemetery, Victoria, Australia on 9 December 1919.

Enlistment

Frederick Porteen Bishop Harris did not provide his Date of Birth when he enlisted with the AIF on 27 September 1916 but transferred to the Australian Flying Corps as an aircraft mechanic. He was an engineer by occupation when he enlisted. He was awarded the British War Medal, 1914/18 Star and Victory Medal for his service in Europe.

Death

Frederick survived the war and when he demobilized on 2 January 1919 he was 28 years of age. When he enlisted he was 26 years of age 4 months. His Discharge Certificate No. was 28390.

On 7 December 1919 his body was found in a Coal Canal near Victoria Dock in Victoria. His Soldiers Discharge Book (No. 1069) was found in his possession and his given address was 64 Canning Street, North Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

His parents lived at 14 Lyle Street, West Brunswick just prior to his return from the Great War in Europe, having moved from 20 Shiel Street, North Melbourne.

ELECTRICIAN'S BODY RECOVERED
Yesterday morning Constable Mahoney, of West Melbourne police station, was in formed that the body of a man was floating in the coal canal, Dudley-street, West Melbourne. The body was secured and removed to tho Morgue, where it was identified as that of Frederick Harris, living in Canning-street, North Melbourne. Harris, who was an electrician, recently  returned from active service, having been absent from Melbourne several years. It was stated by the police yesterday that he had been drinking recently, and it was considered  likely that ho had fallen into the water while under the influence of liquor. He was unmarried.
