Daughter of Robert and Chaterine BURNS nee ROONEY, she trained at Cairns District Hospital.  Netta served in England and in the Field in France returning to Australian 22 August 1919 per 'Norman' with her appointment terminated 21 October 1919.

In 1927 Netta married Alfred Benjamin BAKEWELL in NSW
