Lieutenant Sydney Llewelly Molesworth initially served with the Militia for seven years, was mobilised in 1916 and attached to German Concentration Camp, and attended Duntroon (10 May 1917). Lieutenant (Hon Lieutenant) Molesworth enlisted in the AIF on 27 April 1918 and was attached to 7th Light Horse Regiment, before embarking with 35th Infantry Battalion on 19 June 1918 from Sydney for London on board SS Feldmarschall. Lieutenant Molesworth served in France, and on 1 November 1919 was attached to 35th Infantry Battalion when he embarked from England for Melbourne on board HT Nestor. Lieutenant Molesworth was hospitalised for treatment for Influenza and TB before the Termination of his Appointment on 22 April 1921. Son Archie (Service No:NX501020) served briefly in the Army in 1946.
Sid was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1889, youngest of eight children of Edmund William Molesworth MLA (b1847 in Oxfordshire, England) and Clara Smith (b1856 in Sydney, New South Wales). Edmund immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1850, and was a Customs and Shipping Agent in 1874 when he and Clara married in Sydney, where they settled and raised their family. Edmund was a Customs House Agent, and in 1889 was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the Free Trade Member for Newtown. Edmund also was elected as Chairman of Committees for the Diocese of Sydney.
Sid was a Customs and Shipping Agent in Sydney before enlisting in the AIF in 1918. Whilst on active service in London, he met Marion Eliza Haynes (b1889 in Middlesex, England) - a Nurse in London, and in 1922 the Repatriation Commission gave approval for her free passage (as fiancee) (NAA). Marion arrived in Sydney in February 1923 on board the Largs Bay, and she and Sid married immediately. Sid and Marion settled on Farm 1880 at Beelbangara on the Griffiths Line, where they raised their family and Sid was a Settler/Grazier before retiring to Gosford in the early 1960s. Sid died in 1967 and Marion in 1978.
