Fred was listed on Timboon school honour roll. He was enrolled at age 6, along with his brothers, Alf aged 7 and George Patrick aged 9.
The Digney family had moved to a bush allottment at Timboon from the Terang area. The Digney's became a prominent family in the district. Digney's Bridge Road Timboon was named after them. Two of the Digney boys, larrikin behaviour was immortalised in the story of a fight in "The Man from Curdies River"
Fred and Alf, his brother were both part of WW1 volunteers. Alf signing up under an assumed name in Tasmania. They were part of the Australian legend that was formed in WW1. Fred survived the war, unlike his brother, and married Mary Sophia Collette.
