Next of kin given as his brother John Oates of Dyer Street, West Perth, WA. Also brother of David Oates who returned to Australia on 14 May 1916 having served with the 1st Battalion
Commenced return to Australia on 8 April 1917 aboard HT Barambah disembarking on 29 May 1917
