Following Allan’s return from Vietnam, he was classified as Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI) in September 1970. He became actively involved in the veteran community, joining the NSW Branch of the Korea & South East Asia Forces Association in 1970. In 1974, he helped establish the Lismore and Northern Rivers Sub-Branch, serving as its Foundation Secretary and later being awarded Life Membership in recognition of his service.
In 1975, he took on the role of Assistant Secretary of the Far North Coast TPI sub branch and in 1988 was honoured with Life Membership for his ongoing commitment.
Allan continued to contribute extensively to the community. From 1980, he volunteered with the TS Lismore Naval Cadet Unit for over 20 years, receiving Life Membership and becoming a Patron of the unit.
He was also a dedicated member of the Alstonville Lions Club for ten years, earning several honours including Club Member of the Year, a District Governor’s Award, and the Lions Distinguished Service Award.
He has received numerous Certificates of Appreciation from various community groups in recognition of his service.
