Fred Vizzard was involved in school cadets at Wagga Wagga and at Mosman High Schools where he was Sergeant from 1961 - 1964.

He was a Corporal in the CMF from July 1967 - April 1968 when he enlisted in the RAAF.

From April to June that year he attended the Officer's Training School at Point Cook in Victoria and obtained the rank of Pilot Officer in June 1968 until 7 April 1969.  He was stationed at No. 2 Stores Depot, Regents Park, Sydney.

He was promoted to Flying Officer on 8 April 1969 and in December 1970 was posted to Vung Tau in Vietnam during the Vietnam War where he was Duty Air Movements Officer.

Fred also taught English to adult Vietnames students in his spare time.

His next posting was to Butterworth Air Force Base in Malaysia with his wife and two small children in December 1971.  On that posting he was Duty Air Movements Officer at the base, then Air Movements Officer and from November 1973 until his death in 1974 was a Flight Lieutenant -Senior Air Movements Officer.

Fred died suddently of a subarachnoid haemorrhage, a congenital condition whilst at work on 19 February 1974.
