Lieutenant Colonel Warren Evans served in the Australian Army from 1967 to 1989, beginning with National Service on 1 February 1967. Initially posted to 7 RAR, he transferred to the Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps (RAAOC) on the 22 January 1970 as a Second Lieutenant after a training injury. He served at 5 Base Ordnance Depot (Midland) as a Private and Corporal before graduating from the Officer Cadet School in 1969 as a Second Lieutenant. Subsequent appointments included Stores Officer and Adjutant at 1 BOD (Queensland) and service in South Vietnam from 1970 to 1971. His later career featured postings across Australia and a six‑month detachment to the 4th Armoured Regiment (BAOR) in Germany in 1983.
Throughout his military service, Evans undertook diverse training that equipped him with broad expertise in aviation, administration, logistics, recruiting, Special Forces, and intelligence. In 1978–79, he served as Honorary Aide-de-Camp to Sir Roden Cutler VC, Governor of New South Wales. From 1986 to 1989, as Senior Officer for Armaments and Ammunition at Logistics Command in Melbourne, he chaired the Defence Armaments Committee and served on the steering committee for Monash University’s Logistics Degree Program. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1989.
