Fred was the twelfth of thirteen children of William Grimsey (born 1821 in Suffolk, England) and Bridget Egan (born 1839 in Ireland). William - sentenced to seven years Transportation for Larceny in 1847, arrived at Moreton Bay Colony in January 1950 on board the Convict Ship Bangalore. Awarded a Ticket of Leave, he was permitted to remain within the region, and in 1856 he married Bridget in Ipswich. They raised their family at Rosewood on the Darling Downs in QLD.
Fred worked on the Darling Downs at Rosewood as a Farmer and a Carter, and was a Labourer in October 1916 when he enlisted in the AIF. Fred served as a Private (Service No:2818) with 41st Infantry Battalion 6th Reinforcements and 3rd Divisional Salvage Corps. He was WIA in France - GSW to both thighs - and was Discharged in August 1919.
Fred returned to Ipswich, QLD and worked as a Labourer. In 1935 he married Emma Knuth (born 1891 at Boonah near Ipswich, QLD). They settled in the region and Fred worked as a Labourer at Dugandan in Boonah until his death in 1959. Emma died in 1979.
