James Patrick 'Jim' Allison

Jim was born as McGettigan in Pittsworth, Toowoomba Region QLD on 9 Jun 1930 & was employed as a farm labourer in Brisbane area when he enlisted into the Army on 3 Mar 1949 at the age of 18

No parental details were given. His listed NOK was Mr. Michael David Pickett of Burleigh Heads & address was C/O Mrs. M. Moffat of Bora Creek, Millmerran

He completed hi initial training at 2 Recruit Training Battalion & posted as Private to A Company, 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment in Oct 1949

By deed poll, Jim renounced his surname of McGettigan to now go by Allsion on 9 Jan 1950

He posted to 2 RAR in Aug 1952 & was graded as Carpenter/Joiner

He embarked for Korea on 5 Mar 1953 arriving on the 17th

The battalion was involved in the Battle of The Hook 24-26 Jul after relieving the 1st Bn, King’s Regiment on 9 Jul, however Allison would not be present as he was evacuated on the 5th with a fractured L/ankle & tibia

He re-joined the Battalion in Sep & was re-admitted to hospital still suffering from the injured L/ankle in Jan 1954

Jim returned to Australia in Apr, remaining with 2 RAR until being discharged medically unfit on 2 Mar 1955

Jim passed away in Bundaberg on 29 Sep 1983 at age 53 & he was interred at Bundaberg General Cemetery
