Son of John Gregory O'Kane an Jeannie Elizabeth O'Kane of Ryan Street, Charters Towers, QLD.
Prior to enlisting Francis had been employed with C.S.R. for six years.
Commenced return to Australia on 1 May 1919 aboard HT China disembarking on 8 June 1919 ar Sydney for onward travel to Brisbane
