Personal Stories
Memories of Chippie
Chipper/Chippie always told his nieces that he learnt to cook in the army. In later years he told us that he was a machine gun operator but he never talked about his war experiences. I recall him returning from Korea with a haversack full of gifts such as silk childrens' pajamas , scuffs and a recording of a Korean woman singing in a high pitched, scratchy voice.
