Ordinary Seaman Ronald David Karlovsky (Service Nos:A6770/37044) enlisted in the RAN on 10 July 1949 for a term of twelve years. He service included HMAS Cerberus, Australia, Penguin, Leeuwin, Albatross and Warrego. Ordinary Seaman served on HMAS Bataan during the Korean War (27 June 1950 - 6 June 1951), and in 1958 was at RAN College Jervis Bay in the Australian Capital Territory. Ordinary Seaman Karlovsky was Discharged on 9 February 1961.
Ron was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1930, eighth of nine (and youngest surviving) children of Clement Hubert Karlovsky (b1882 in Prague, Czech Republic) and Annie Elizabeth Thomson (b1889 in Leith, Scotland). Clement arrived in Western Australia in 1906 and Annie arrived in 1910 on board the Ormuz. Clement (a Motor Mechanic) and Annie married in 1912 in Perth, and lived in Subiaco, Coolup, Beverley, Goomalling and Victoria Park where they raised their family and Clement was a Motor Mechanic. Clement was Naturalised in 1921 when he and his family were living in Beverley.
Ron worked as an Assistant Storeman in Perth before enlisting in the Navy in 1949. In Perth in 1956 he married Margaret Mary Isobella Potts (b1932 in Perth, Western Australia) - Margaret was working in Gosnells as a Tailoress. Following his Discharge from the Navy in 1961, Ron and Margaret settled in Perth, where they raised their fmaily and Ron was a Spray Painter. Ron died in 2018 and Margaret in 2023,
