Percy Grist Fry was born on the 8th of April 1899 to George Ernest Fry and Catherine Mary Fry. He had three siblings and was raised a Methodist.
At the age of 18 years and 2 months, he signed up to go to war, on the 2nd of July 1917. He was 5ft 4, and weighed 50kg. He was fair of skin, with blue eyes and brown hair. When he went to war, he was single. He embarked on the 21st of March 1918.

He returned from the war alive on the ship 'Plassy' and went on to marry Myrtle Laura Fry in 1823 (aged 23) and had 2 children, living a long life, until he died of old age at the age of 64.
He was buried in the West Terrace Cemetary in Adelaide, Section KO, Road 1A, Site Number 40.
