Frank's mother, Ellen Healy Aceituno, remarried shortly after her first husband died, to Thomas Darcy O'Toole who was an English seafarer. The new family returned to England but in 1877 arrived in Western Australia aboard the Robert Morrison and settled in Bridgetown. Young Frank was mostly known as Frank O'Toole and became naturalised in 1909. He enlisted at age 44 and served mostly in France. Both before and after the war he worked as a farmer and lived most of his life in Bridgetown. He was regarded as a true gentleman by those who knew him.
