Son of Harvey Quiney and Elizabeth Quiney of Mortlake, Victoria.

18 August 1914 - enlisted at Kensington, NSW with the 1st Divisional Train with the rank of Driver and service number 250.

19 July 1915 - wounded. Shoulder and underarm

18 March 1916 - promoted to Lance Corporal

29 July 1916 - promoted to 2nd Lieutenant 

31 July 1916 - transferred to the 2nd Australian Army Service Corp

29 October 1916 - promoted to Leiutenant

20 November 1917 - awarded Military CrossFor conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of transport carrying ammunition to forward dumps. He showed resourcefullness and skill in getting the ammunition forward, often passing through hostile barrages and loading and unloading ammunition under heavy fire. London Gazette on

8 December 1917 - transferred to the Headquarters of the 1st Divisional Train
