Lyle (Jack) was born in Birchip. He had two sisters. Beryl (HACKNEY) was born in Geelong (26/5/1919) and Sylvie (HUGHES) was born in Carlton (26/12/1921).

1917 - 1921, young John Lyle lived with his Mother in places like Birchip and Birregurra.

Around five years of age (1922), he was in Bendigo, Golden Square and Bridgewater. 

Right on his 14th birthday in 1931, Jack was booked into service for Mrs A.M. Oates in Marong. Agnes Murial Oates was married to Richard.

(Richard's father, also Richard OATES, was the co-founder, along with John Deason, of the “Welcome Stranger” gold nugget found at Moliagul, Victoria, Australia on 5th February 1869.)

Once Jack turned 16 in 1933, he was back in Birchip working as service for Mrs D.A. Wilson.

Two years later in 1935, Jack was eighteen and working as a drover.

Around 1940 he was living in Middle Park and enlisted at South Melbourne. His occupation at the time was listed as Coach Builder.

His Mum (Lal) and his Auntie Lil (Lillian JENKINS) also lived in Middle Park.

At some stage, Lyle (Jack) went on to work for Ford Motor Company in Geelong.

During the War, Lyle was working on aircraft, based around Port Melbourne. He also worked as a Stage Manager where he met Daisy Jean COFFEY. They worked in productions to entertain the troops.

He went on to work for ANSETT ANA.

He married Jean in 1946, they shared a wedding with Jean's sister, June who married Ray GOLDSBOROUGH.

Jean and Lyle had two children, Allan and Jeni.

They became Nanna and Pa to eight grandchildren.
