Geoff was the ninth of ten children of Elijah Barker (b1851 in Norfolk, England) and second wife Jane Hales (nee Allen; b1864 in Port Cygnet, Tasmania). Elijah arrived in Launceston, Tasmania on board the Whirlwind in 1855. He was a Farmer (Widower with two surviving children) in 1887 when he married Jane (a Widow with one son) in Emu Bay, Tasmania. Elijah and Jane lived in Penguin and Sister's Creek where Elijah was a Farmer.
Geoff was a Farmer in Montumana, Tasmania in 1930 when he married Emily Madge Crisp (b1913 in Wynyard Tasmania) in Myalla. By 1942 Geoff was working as a Sawmiller in Mawbanna when he enlisted in the ACMF (Service No:T29949). By 1944 Geoff and Emily were settled at Calder where Geoff was a Farmer. Geoff died in 1966 and Emily in 1995.
