Private Roderick William Freeman (Service No:T155550) enlisted in the ACMF on 11 October 1941. Born in 1920 in Campbell Town in Tasmania, Rod was the eldest of two children of Charles Roy Freeman (b1888 at Avoca, Tasmania) and Kathleen Rose Freeman (b1892 in Fingal, Tasmania). Charles (a Shearer) enlisted in the AIF in May 1917 as a Trooper attached 3rd Light Horse - he was Discharged as Medically Unfit in November 1917. Charles and Kathleen settled at Avoca where Charles worked as a Shearer, Labourer and Manager.

Rod was working as a Tin Miner when he enlisted in the ACMF, and in 1945 in Wilmot, Tasmania he married Annie Jean Denney (b1921 in Evandale, Tasmania) - Annie was a Shop Assistant. Rod and Annie lived at Cullenswood, Castle Carey and Avoca where Rod was a Farmer. Annie died in 1988 and Rod in 2006.
