Sydney Rupert McBEATH was born in 1892 in Footscray, Victoria
His parents were Rupert McBEATH and Amelia JACOBS
He had previous service for 1 year & 44 days with the Permanent Guard and was discharged as medically unit . He enlisted on 19th December, 1916 with the Australian Army - he was with the 1st & 2d Field Troops - Unit embarked from Sydney on board HMAT Port Sydney on 9th May, 1917
Sydney died from Malaria & Pneumonia on 19th October, 1918 at the 14th Australian General Hospital, Egypt - he is buried in Port Said War Memorial Cemetery. -
His unit from the Australian War Memorial was listed as 2nd Field Squadron, Australian Engineers
He is honoured on the Australian War Memorial - he also received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal
