Private Robert William Hoskins (Service No:1357) enlisted in the AIF on 9 November 1914 with 5th Infantry Battalion (in some records his Service No was recorded as 1344). Private Hoskins embarked on 2 February 1915 from Melbourne for Egypt on board HMAT Clan McGillivray A46 and saw action in Alexandria, Gallipoli and Anzac Cove. Private Hoskins was in France when he was WiA (GSW to legs and head) on 25 July 1916 and was evacuated to England. On 14 December 1918 Private Hoskins embarked from Southampton for Melbourne on board HT Burmah and was attached to 5th Infantry Battalion at Discharge 30 March 1919.

Robert was born in Dartmoor via Heywood, Victoria in 1892, second of eight children of Robert Hoskins Snr (b1857 in Bridgewater, Victoria) and Elizabeth McKinnon (b1866 in Dartmoor, Victoria). Robert Snr (a Grazier) and Elizabeth married in 1887 in Dartmoor and lived there and in Mumbannar  where they raised their family and Robert was a Grazier and then Labourer.

Robert worked as a Labourer in Mumbannar before enlisting in the AIF. Following his Dicharge, in 1921 in Melbourne he married Phyllis Irene Beaven (b1896 in Horsham, Victoria) - Phyllis was working in Melbourne as a Clerk. Robert and Phyllis settled in Melbourne where they raised theirf maily and Robert was a Railway Employee. Robert died in 1970 and Phyllis in 1974.
