On 3rd of May 1895, David Michael Fitzgerald and Mary Warner Fitzgerald had a son named David Fitzgerald. David lived in Rosewater, Port Adelaide Enfield. He had two siblings, named Mary Aloysius Fitzgerald, and Dorothy Mary Fitzgerald. He was the middle child of his family. He was a Roman Catholic, worked as a storeman and was unmarried before enlistment. He enlisted in the war on 2nd of August 1915 at the age of 20 years and 2 months as a Private, with the permission from David Michael Fitzgerald, his father.

He embarked away overseas on a HMAT Benalla in Adelaide with the 27th Infantry Battalion. On 27th of October 1915, he seem to be involved in an unknown battle with the 27th Infantry Battalion. On 16th February 1916, he's transferred to the 10th Infantry Battalion as a Private, and on 23rd July 1916, he's involved in the Battle for Pozières. He got wounded on the first day with a gunshot wound to his left leg, and was transferred to a hospital until he was discharged from it on 9th of August 1916. 

On the 14th April 1917 he was admitted to hospital sick with debility until 7th May 1917.

On 25th July 1919, he was discharged from service. He then was married to Annie Fitzgerald, parent of four children, named Robert, Patricia, Anne, and Mary. David Michael Fitzgerald, his father, unfortunately passed away at the age of 66, hours after his evening devotion in Alberton Church, on 23rd of October 1928. He was buried in Cheltenham Cemetery. His mother, Mary Warner Fitzgerald, passed away on 19th of June 1944 at the age of 77-78 and was buried in Cheltenham Cemetery. Dorothy Mary Fitzgerald, his sibling, died on 4th of March 1967 at the age of 69 and was buried in Cheltenham Cemetery.

On 13th of February, Annie Fitzgerald, his wife, lived to 72, passed away and was buried in Spalding Cemetery. And on 2nd of May 1977, at the age of 82, David Fitzgerald finally passed away and joined his wife in the grave. About one year after his death, his sibling, Mary Aloysius Fitzgerald died at the age of 87 on 3rd of November 1978 and was buried in Sisters of St Joseph Cemetery.
