Robert was the sixth of thirteen children of William H Guthrie (born 1853 in Donegal, Ireland) and Ellen Jane Long (born 1861 in Donegal, Ireland). William , a Carpenter, and Ellen married in 1880 in Donegal, Ireland, where they raised their family. Following William's death in 1901, Ellen remarried Robert McCormack (born 1870 in Donegal Ireland) in 1902. Robert, a Farmer's son, and Ellen immigrated with most of Ellen's children, settling in Fremantle, Western Australia where Robert was a Labourer.
Robert was living in South Fremantle, WA, where he had worked as a Labourer and Storemen, and in 1916 was a Horse Driver when he enlisted with the AIF. He served as a Private (Service No:5367) with 28th Infantry Battalion in France, and was WIA on two occasions. He was Discharged in March 1919. Brother Hugh (Service No:822) served in WWI, as did several Brothers-in-Law, and nephews William James Trezine (Service No:3693) and Ernest Frederick Trezine (Service No:WX28553) served in WWII.
Returning to Fremantle, WA, Robert was working as a Storeman in 1919 when he married Daisy Violet Hicks - a Clerk (born 1895 in Fremantle, WA). Robert and Daisy moved to South Perth, WA where Robert worked as a Clerk. He died in 1966 and Daisy in 1972.
