Born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1919, Patience was youngest of three children of Dr Edmund Harold Molesworth (b1881 in Sydney, New South Wales) and Patience Mary Terry (b1888 in Sydney, New South Wales). Edmund and Patience Snr married in 1912 in Sydney, where they raised their family and Edmund was a Medical Practitioner.
Patience worked in Sydney as a Clerk after finishing school at New England Girls' Grammar, was active on the Sydney social scene in the pre WWII era, and was Hon Secretary of the AAMC Comforts Fund (NSW). Following her Discharge from the AWAS in 1945, Patience lived in England and Europe, where she worked for the BBC in London and the Marshall Plan (European Recovery Program) in Paris. Returning to Sydney in 1953, Patience was working as an Insurance Agent in 1961 when she married Alan Rich (b1913 in Sydney, New South Wales) - Alan was a Company Director and Insurance and Tax Agent. Patience and Alan established a partnership (Alan Rich & Coy) and worked as Insurance and Tax Agents in Sydney until 1973, when the partnership was dissolved and the couple separated.
