Captain Jean Boyd Kelsall MiD (Service No:VX271) enlisted in the AIF on 22 June 1940 at Australian Army Medical Corps (AAMC) Depot Melbourne - Masseuse - and was attached to 2 Australian General Hospital on 15 April 1940 when she embarked from Melbourne for Kantara, returning to Adelaide from Port Suez on 17 March 1942 on board the Strathallan. Appointed to a Commission on 22 August 1942, Lieutenant (Physiotherapist) Kelsall was posted to No 1 Orthopaedic Hospital Ballarat and 105 Military (Adelaide) Hospital before embarking from Brisbane for Lae on 12 June 1945 on board the Ormiston. Lieutenant Kelsall embarked from Torokina for Sydney on  13 December 1945 on board the Manunda, and was awarded a Mention in Despatches on 24 June 1946 'for exceptional service in the field in SWP area' (AWM). Captain Kelsall was attached to 2/7 Australian General Hospital at Termination of Appointment on 24 April 1946.

Sue was born in Hamilton, Victoria in 1914, fourth of five children of Albert Christopher Kelsall (b1866 in Buninyong, Victoria) and Frances Maud Boyd (b1878 in Buninyong, Victoria). Albert and Maud married in 1902 in Elaine via Ballarat, and settled in Hamilton, where they raised their family and Albert was an Auctioneer and Grazier. Albert was a Member of the Board of Directors of Young Bros Stock and Station Agents, a member of the Hamilton Pastoral and Agricultural Society, and involved in local hunting, cricket and bowls clubs. Following his death in 1930, eldest son John managed the family property and Maud and the younger children moved to Melbourne.

Sue worked as a Masseuse in Melbourne before enlisting in the Army, and following her Discharge in 1946, established herself in Melbourne as a Physiotherapist. In 1972 in Melbourne, Sue married Thomas (Tom) Raymond Blamey MBE (b1914 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Tom, a Widow, was a Manager (Legal) with Comalco and had served in WWII (Lieutenant Colonel; Service No:VX84). Sue and Tom lived in Melbourne - Sue worked as a Physiotherapist and Tom as a Manager - before retiring in 1974 and moving to Mornington. Sue died in 1992 and Tom in 1998.
